Viktor Pavlovich Letyagin is MD, professor, Honored Science Worker of the Russian Federation, chief researcher at the Department of mammary tumors of NN Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center RAMS.

In 1963 he graduated from the medical faculty of the First Moscow Medical Institute n.a. I.M. Sechenov (currently First MSMU n.a. I.M. Sechenov), with degree in “medicine”. Since 1965, after medical residency training (on the basis of the Institute of experimental and clinical oncology of AMS USSR) V.P. Letyagin has been working in the NN Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center: from 1981 to 2009, he was the head of the surgical department of mammary tumors, since 2009 till now he is the chief scientific officer of the department. Being an advanced practicing surgeon-oncologist, Viktor Letyagin has a wide range of surgical interventions in the organs of the chest and abdomen. Under his guidance, there were developed original methods of surgical interventions for breast cancer, conservative operations arouse widespread in practical application thanks to researches of V.P. Letyagin.

Viktor Letyagin is a prominent scientist in the field of Clinical Oncology. He has published 438 scientific papers, including 26 monographs, 13 educational methodical recommendations, shot 4 educational films dealing with various aspects of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The great merit of his is the creation of breast surgeons’ school, which members have earned well-deserved authority and recognition among the medical community in Russia and in the countries of near and far abroad. Under the guidance of Victor Letyagin there were trained 46 candidates and 16 doctors of medical sciences.

Professor Viktor Letyagin is the coordinator of the institute-wide program for breast cancer treatment. His active practical and scientific activity is combined with the literary one, he is the chief editor of the magazine "Tumors of the female reproductive system." Professor Viktor Letyagin is High Achiever of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Quality Problems.
