MAMMOLOGY. DIAGNOSIS

NEW POSSIBILITIES OF RADIOLOGIC DIAGNOSTICS OF BREAST CANCER

Abduraimov A.B., Ternovoy S.K.

Abstract

Early breast cancer diagnosis is contemporary and actual problem due to the increase of breast cancer incidence and low detection rate of the disease.
Multispiral computed tomography of mammary gland with intravenous contrast agent injection allows resolving diagnostic tasks aris- ing in patients with high density mammary gland tissue, considerable edema, fibrosis, postoperative conditions. It also helps to define localization, extent of disease and tumor growth patterns.
High gradient of contrasting in the malignant tissue during venous phase makes it possible to reveal small tumor nodules (less than 1 cm). Implementation of thin slices (less than 1 mm) during multispiral CT of mammary glands allows detecting of micro-calcifications. Possibilities to evaluate changes in retro mammary space, regional lymph nodes and to analyze the osseous and pulmonary tissues con- dition during the same investigation allows correct staging of disease and assessing the degree of disease extension.

CLINICAL AND IMMUNOLOGIC IMPORTANCE OF MDR1/PGP 170 EXPRESSION IN PATIENTS WITH BREAST CANCER

Yengay D.A., Poddubnaya I.V., Tupitsin N.N., Mechetner Y.B.

Abstract

Clinical, morphologic and immunohistochemical data of 51 patients with stage T2N1-3M0 breast cancer treated in the N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in 2002 was analyzed. Expression of Pgp 170 was found in 19 patients. Relationship between immunophenotype of stage T2N1-3M0 breast cancer cells and main clinical and morphologic fea- tures, treatment provided and expression of multiple drug resistance gene MDR1.

CHARACTERISTICS OF CLINICAL PICTURE AND BIOLOGIC FEATURES OF RARE BREAST CANCER FORMS

Martinova G.V., Visotskaya I.V., Letyagin V.P., Yermilova V.D., Kim Y.A.

Abstract

Low incidence and difficulties of histological type identification of rare breast cancer forms preoperatively renders paramount importance to the detailed study of all cases revealed. Within the bounds of the research which is under the way in our center, we carried out an analy- sis of patients’ records treated in the N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center from 1985 to 2005. Overall, 1053 cases of rare breast cancer forms were diagnosed including 364 patients with tubular, 231 — mucous, 190 — medullar, 126 — papillary and 142 — metaplas- tic carcinomas. The article discusses the issues of clinical course, presentation, treatment and prognosis of rare forms of breast cancer.

INDOL-3-CARBINOL IN THE TREATMENT OF BENIGN BREAST DISORDERS

Zulkarnayeva E.T., Hakimova R.H., Lapan Y.A., Blagodetelev I.L.

Abstract

123 patients with various forms of fibrocystic mastopathy (n=114) and fibroadenoma of mammry gland (n=9) were enrolled into the study. Indol-3-carbinol (indinol, Close corporation «Mirax-Pharma») was administered in the dose of 300—400 mg per day for 3—6 months. Disappearance of complaints to pain was observed in 35% of patients after 3 months of therapy and in 63% — after 6 months of therapy. Objective signs of fibrocystic mastopathy completely regressed in 9% of patients after 3 months of therapy and in 16% — after 6 month of therapy. Overall considerable improvement of condition or complete cure was seen in 55% of patients after 3 month of treatment and in 92% — after 6 months of therapy. Thus, indinol is highly effective and safe agent for treatment of different types of mastopathy.

5-YEAR SURVIVAL OF PATIENTS WITH STAGE II UTERINE CANCER DEPENDING ON MORPHOLOGIC FEATURES OF TUMOR

Mustafina Y.A., Barinov V.V., Shabanov M.A., Bokina L.I., Kozachenko V.P., Peskova V.I.

Abstract

Retrospective data of treatment results of 109 patients with rarely observed stage II uterine cancer, admitted to N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center from 1980 to 2000 is analyzed. Correlation of overall 5-year survival rates of stage IIA and IIB uterine can- cer patients with a number of tumor morphologic features is studied. The influence of some non-elucidated morphologic features of stage IIA and IIB uterine cancer such as the degree of cellular anaplasia, the depth of tumor invasion into the uterine neck, lymho- vascular invasion into the myometrium and uterine neck, microscopic vessels density in the area of the most extensive invasion, the presence of necrotic areas in the tumor tissue on long-term treatment results are analyzed.
